A five-minute drive south of Golden off Highway 95, the
Cedar House Restaurant
(735 Hefti Rd., 250/344-4679, 5pm-10pm daily, $23-34) is a good choice for wonderfully
flavored food that takes advantage of seasonal Canadian produce, including vegetables or-
ganically grown on the property. The soup of the day is a good way to get things going, then
choose between mains such as prawn risotto or grilled Alberta beef tenderloin. The dining
room is in a log building, but on warmer evenings you'll want to be outside on the patio.
While accommodations, fast-food restaurants, and gas stations line the Trans-Canada High-
way, downtown Golden holds other basic services, including the
post office
(502 9th Ave.).
