walkway. Regular motel rooms range $175-210 s or d, while kitchen-equipped condos
sleeping up to six people start at $265 per night. Check the website or call for specials
(rooms are often sold for around $120, even in the middle of summer). Additionally, golf,
ski, and spa packages lower rates considerably, especially before and after summer's peak
season.
The Prestige Inn at Radium Hot Springs (7493 Main St. W., 250/347-2300 or 877/
737-8443, www.prestigeinn.com , $185-245 s or d) sits at the town's main intersection. Fa-
cilities include a fitness room, indoor pool, gift shop, spa services, an Italian restaurant, and
a lounge bar.
Campgrounds
The closest commercial camping, nestled in its own private valley immediately north of the
Highway 93/95 junction, is at Canyon RV Resort (5012 Sinclair Creek Rd., 250/347-9564,
www.canyonrv.com , Apr.-Oct., $36-46). Treed sites are spread along a pleasant creek, and
all facilities are provided.
Perfectly described by its name, Dry Gulch Provincial Park (May-mid-Oct., $21) of-
fers 26 sites four kilometers (2.5 miles) south of town. Typical of provincial park camping,
each site has a picnic table and fire pit but no hookups.
Within Kootenay National Park, but accessed from in town off Highways 93/95, is Red-
streak Campground.
FOOD
The town of Radium Hot Springs holds several good choices for a food break. For break-
fast, head to Springs Course restaurant (Stanley St., 250/347-9311, 7am-9pm daily Apr.-
Oct., $13-25), at the golf course on the west side of the highway. The view from the deck
overlooking the Columbia River and Purcell Mountains is nothing short of stunning. The
food is good and remarkably inexpensive; in the morning, for example, an omelet with three
fillings, hash browns, and toast is just $12.
Back in town, Back Country Jack's (Main St. W., 250/347-0097, 11am-11pm daily,
$12-18) is decorated with real antiques and real hard bench seats in private booths. There's
a wide variety of platters to share, including Cowboy Caviar (nachos and baked beans) and
a surprisingly good barbecued chicken soup. For a main, the half-chicken, half-ribs, and all
