In-Depth Information
wireless Internet. It offers a wide range of hot drinks and light meals, best enjoyed on the
heated patio.
Bamboo Beach (3313 30th Ave., 250/542-7701, lunch and dinner daily, $11-17) is your
typical small-town Asian restaurant, but the setting is a notch more inviting than you may
expect and the Japanese, Thai, and Korean choices please most tastes.
Intermezzo (3206 34th Ave., 250/542-3853, from 5pm daily, $15-27) has a casual yet
somewhat romantic setting and is a locals' favorite for its wide choice of southern European
specialties, including inexpensive pastas and more creative choices such as a fruity pan-
seared halibut topped with asparagus.
BX Creek Bar & Grill at the Best Western Vernon Lodge (3914 32nd St., 250/
545-3385, 11am-11pm daily, $11-28) is hotel dining, but the restaurant is set in a tropical
atrium with a natural stream flowing through the middle. The daily lunch buffet is just $9,
while in the evening the wide-ranging menu features lots of British Columbia game and
produce.
Two out-of-town choices are worth searching out. Originating as a fruit stand, Friesens
Countrytyme Gardens (9172 Kalamalka Rd., 250/549-3587, 7am-5pm daily, lunches
$7-12) has grown into a destination for those searching out a hearty meal (eggs and bacon
for breakfast, Mennonite sausage for lunch) in an orchard setting. Sunday brunch is very
busy.
Blue Heron (7673 Okanagan Landing Rd., 250/542-5550, 11am-11pm daily, $12-19) is
a few kilometers west of downtown, but well worth the drive for the setting more than any-
thing else. It sits right on Okanagan Lake, and a large deck right on the water is the most
popular of the pub's three dining areas. The menu is fairly standard, with lots of dishes to
share, but as it's off the tourist path, prices are reasonable.
