Benvoulin Heritage Park
Farther south along Benvoulin Road is Pandosy Mission Provincial Heritage Site
(8am-dusk daily, donation), the site of the mission established by Father Pandosy in 1859.
Father Pandosy, an oblate priest, operated a church, school, and farm here, ministering to
First Nations people and settlers until his death in 1891. His mission claimed a lot of firsts:
first white settlement in the Okanagan Valley, first school in the valley, first fruit and vine
crops in the valley, and first Roman Catholic mission in the BC interior. Not much has
changed within the broken-down wooden fences that hold the mission—four of the eight
buildings on-site date to Pandosy's era, including a chapel and barn.
