friendly, self-contained resort adjacent to an 18-hole golf course. Amenities include an out-
door pool, a sprawling courtyard, a playground, a fitness center, a restaurant with poolside
service, and a stylish pub. The rooms are decorated in smart color schemes, are air-condi-
tioned, and have wireless Internet.
For the atmosphere of an old-fashioned resort, it's difficult to surpass the M Naramata
Heritage Inn & Spa (3625 1st St., Naramata, 250/496-6808 or 866/617-1188,
www.naramatainn.com , $178 s, $198-448 d), north of Penticton along the east side of the
lake. Dating to 1908, the hotel has been completely renovated, yet none of its historic ap-
peal has been lost. The guest rooms have mission-style beds covered with plush duvets,
bathrooms with heated floors and claw-foot tubs, and either a balcony or patio. Other amen-
ities include spa services and a wine bar/restaurant with occasional live blues or jazz.
Camping
South of downtown, Wright's Beach Camp RV Park (4200 Skaha Lake Rd., 250/
492-7120, www.wrightsbeachcamp.com , mid-March-mid-Oct., $47-64) is right on the lake
and has a huge playground and an outdoor pool.
If being by the lake isn't important, choose to stay at Twin Lakes Golf & RV Resort
(79 Twin Lakes Rd., 250/497-8379, www.twinlakesgolfresort.com , Apr.-Sept., $33-38), 19
kilometers (12 miles) southwest of Penticton. The campground is in the middle of a full-
length golf course (greens fee $59, but discounted to $49 for campers), which is surrounded
by barren cliffs. Amenities include modern washrooms, free firewood, a restaurant, and a
lounge. A five-minute drive west of the campground, you can fish from the banks of Yellow
Lake for brook trout and perch. To get to Twin Lakes, head south from Penticton and turn
west off Highway 97 at Kaleden. If you're traveling east from Princeton, turn off Highway
3 at Keremeos.
FOOD
Penticton has a wide variety of restaurants spread along the beach and through downtown.
Here are two personal favorites away from the beach, but well worth searching out for in-
novative and healthy food.
Bench Market (368 Vancouver Ave., 250/492-2222, 7am-5pm Mon.-Fri. 8am-5pm
Sat.-Sun., lunches $6-9) is a great place to enjoy healthy breakfasts such as granola made
in-house and topped with Okanagan honey. Soups, paninis, and salads are all made fresh
daily, and there are a few picnic tables out front for warmer weather.
