Keremeos Columns
Another local highlight, although it takes some effort to reach, is Keremeos Columns Pro-
vincial Park. The park is named for a 90-meter (300-foot) cliff of remarkable hexagonal
basalt columns rising from a lava base just outside the park boundary (the columns were
supposed to be in the park, but because of a surveying accident actually stand on private
land). Access the viewpoint by taking a steep eight-kilometer (five-mile) logging road off
Highway 3 about four kilometers (2.5 miles) north of town (turn right at the Keremeos
cemetery), then take another steep six-kilometer (3.7-mile) hike (allow at least two hours
one-way) across private property; ask for permission from the Clifton family at the house
at the end of the paved road.
