TRANSPORTATION
Getting There
The vast majority of visitors drive up to Whistler along Highway 99 from Vancouver. The
120-kilometer (75-mile) trip takes around 90 minutes when traffic conditions allow, but can
take over two hours at peak times during the winter season. If you are driving west along
the Trans-Canada Highway, instead of traveling through Vancouver to reach Whistler, it's
possible to head west from Kamloops on Highway 97, passing through Cache Creek and
Pemberton to approach the resort town from the north. Allow at least 3.5 hours for travel
between Kamloops and Whistler.
Rocky Mountaineer Vacations (604/606-7245 or 877/460-3200,
www.whistlermountaineer.com ) , the same company that runs train trips between Vancouver
and the Canadian Rockies, also operates the Whistler Sea to Sky Climb train between
North Vancouver and Whistler. While the train itself is deluxe in every respect, it's what's
outside the large windows that is most memorable—a moving postcard of mountains,
ocean, and waterfalls. The 3.5-hour one-way trip runs May through mid-October, with de-
partures from North Vancouver daily at 8:30am. Rates are adult $311 round-trip, or upgrade
to Dome Car Service for adult $420. Rates include snacks and hotel transfers. You can also
return to Vancouver by bus, which saves a few bucks and allows you to spend extra time in
Whistler.
Whistler has no airport, but you can fly in with Whistler Air (604/932-6615 or 888/
806-2299, www.whistlerair.ca ) , which operates scheduled floatplane flights between down-
