In-Depth Information
flows into Howe Sound has escaped development. It comprises tidal flats, forested areas,
marshes, and open meadows—and over 200 species of birds call the area home. Hiking
trails lace the area, and there are three main access points: Industrial Road, the end of Win-
nipeg Street, and the end of Vancouver Street, all of which branch off Cleveland Avenue.
Squamish celebrates two very different lifestyles at its major annual events. The second
week of July is the Squamish Mountain Festival ( www.squamishmountainfestival.com ) ,
a semisocial gathering of adventure-loving folk who come for the mountain biking, wind-
surfing, white-water kayaking, rock climbing, a film festival, and a trade fair. Then, the last
weekend of July, Squamish is mobbed by loggers from around the world who congregate
for the annual Squamish Days Logger Sports ( www.squamishdays.ca ). Don't be too sur-
prised to see people competing at climbing trees, rolling logs, and throwing axes. The show
also includes an RV rally, truck loggers rodeo, dances, pageants, and parades.
