This small seaside community clings to the rugged shoreline of Port San Juan, 104 kilo-
meters (65 miles) from Victoria. Follow the signs to
Botanical Beach,
a fascinating inter-
tidal pool area where low tide exposes hundreds of species of marine creatures at the foot
of scoured-out sandstone cliffs. The 2.7-kilometer (1.8-mile) loop trail from the end of the
road passes the beach as well as Botany Bay, which is more of a rocky outlook than a beach.
