PHOTOGRAPHY
Print processing from your memory cards is offered by dozens of outlets throughout Van-
couver. Two of the most reliable are London Drugs (call 604/872-8114 for the location
nearest to you), with branches throughout Metro Vancouver, and Lens and Shutter (2912
W. Broadway, 604/736-3461, 9:30am-6pm Mon.-Sat., noon-5pm Sun.). Leo's Cameras
(1055 Granville St., 604/685-5331, 9am-5pm Mon.-Sat.) has an excellent selection of new
and used camera equipment, with knowledgeable staff on hand to answer any questions.
Prices are competitive, especially for the newest camera models and accessories.
If you've arrived in Vancouver with a mobile phone—or in fact almost any electronic
device from another country—you should be able to find parts, plugs, and adapters at For-
eign Electronics (432 E. Broadway, 604/879-1189, 10am-6pm Mon.-Fri., 11am-5pm Sat.).
Getting There and Around
Most visitors arrive in Vancouver by air or road. For those driving, downtown Vancouver
is 1,060 kilometers (653 miles) from Calgary along the Trans-Canada Highway (allow at
least 12 hours), or a painful 4,530 kilometers (2,807 miles) across the country from Toronto.
The sprawl of Vancouver extends right to the U.S. border; officially the driving distance
between downtown Seattle and downtown Vancouver is 225 kilometers (140 miles), but al-
low plenty of time for traffic and border delays. Further afield, it's 2,055 kilometers (1,277
miles) between Los Angeles and Vancouver and 4,785 kilometers (2,973 miles) from New
York.
AIR
Vancouver International Airport (YVR; www.yvr.ca ) is on Sea Island, 15 kilometers (9.3
miles) south of Vancouver city center. Over 16 million passengers pass through the terminal
annually. The three-story international terminal and adjacent domestic terminal hold coffee
shops and restaurants, car-rental agencies, a post office, currency exchanges, newsstands,
