What If Your Data Is Already in the Cloud?
In this chapter I've discussed backing up data from a local computer
to storage in the cloud. But increasingly, the data we care about is
never stored locally in the first place. Services such as Google Apps,
Microsoft Office 365, and Web-based email services enable you to
create and store information in the cloud using nothing more than
a Web browser. But you may still want to back up that data—to local
storage, a different cloud provider, or both. I discuss this further a bit
later, in Back Up Data from the Cloud .
