Nagomi Sushi (Le Chamios Hotel, 4557 Blackcomb Way, 604/962-0404, 5pm-10pm
daily, $19-28) serves a mix of modern and traditional Japanese dishes in a casual setting.
CASUAL
The rustic decor and great Canadian food at Garibaldi Lift Co. Bar & Grill (604/
905-2220,daily forlunch and dinner,$14-27),at the base ofthe Whistler Village gondola,
have been a big hit since it opened in 1995. The bar and sundeck are popular après-ski
hangouts, and by around 8pm everyone's back for dinner. For Western-style atmosphere
with mountain views, head to the Longhorn Saloon and Grill (Carleton Lodge, 4284
MountainSq.,604/932-5999,11am-10pmdaily;$21-34),andshareaplatteroffingerfood
or order your own cut of prime Alberta beef, complete with trimmings.
Citta Bistro (4217 Village Stroll, 604/932-4177, 11am-10pm daily, $13-18) has been
around since Whistler first became a hip destination—and it's as popular today as it ever
was. If it's a warm evening, try for a table on the patio and order a gourmet single-serve
pizza ($14) to go with a locally brewed beer.
ITALIAN
Restaurant entrepreneur Umberto Menghi operates numerous eateries in Vancouver and
two restaurants in Whistler Village. Both are reasonably priced with menus influenced by
the cuisine of Tuscany. Check out Il Caminetto (4242 Village Stroll, 604/932-4442, from
5pmdaily,$25-34)and Trattoria di Umberto (4417SundialPl.,604/932-5858,from5pm
daily, $22-30). The former, named for a fireplace that has been replaced by more tables,
has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and an extensive menu of pastas. Fresh flowers and
original art add to the appeal. The latter is slightly less expensive and attracts a more cas-
ual crowd.
STEAK AND SEAFOOD
For steaks, seafood, a salad bar, fresh hot bread, and plenty of food at a reasonable
price, the Whistler Keg (Whistler Village Inn & Suites, 4429 Sundial Pl., 604/932-5151,
5pm-10pm Mon.-Fri., 4pm-10pm Sat.-Sun., $19-27) is a sure thing. The atmosphere is
casual, yet the service at this Canadian chain is slick and refreshingly attentive.
