popular with the younger crowd, pumping out high-volume reggae across the valley's

and alternative music.
Black's Pub (Sundial Boutique Hotel, 4270 Mountain Sq., 604/932-6945) offers more
than 90 international beers and a quiet atmosphere in a small upstairs English-style bar
with tables out on the patio to take in the mountain views. Another more refined watering
hole is the Crystal Lounge (Crystal Lodge, 4154 Village Green, 604/932-2221).
Events
The winter season is packed with ski and snowboard races, but the biggest is the World
Ski & Snowboard Festival (604/938-3399, www.wssf.com )inmid-April.Thisinnovative
event brings together the very best winter athletes for the World Skiing Invitational and
theWorldSnowboardingChampionship.Theseareonlytheflagshipsofthis10-dayextra-
vaganza,whichalsoincludesdemodays,exhibitions,andafilmfestival.Eachweekendin
May and June and daily throughout summer, the streets of Whistler come alive with street
entertainment such as musicians, jugglers, and comedians. Canada Day, July 1, is celeb-
rated with a parade through Whistler Village.

Whistler's accommodations range from a hostel with inexpensive dorm beds to luxury re-
sort hotels. It's just a matter of selecting one to suit your budget and location preference.

scribes accommodations within a five-minute walk of the lifts.)
Accommodation pricing in Whistler is complex. The best advice is to shop around us-
ing the phone or Internet. Contact the lodgings and then the booking agencies listed here
to get a comparison. Winter is most definitely high season, with the week after Christmas
and all of February and March being a peak period within the high season, especially for
lodgingswithinwalkingdistanceoftheliftsorthatareself-containedandcapableofsleep-
ing more than two people. These are also the accommodations that discount most heavily
outside of winter. Although winter is peak season, rates quoted here are for summertime.
