arched doorways, blue-and-white tablecloths, travel posters, and lots of colorful flowering
plants. All of the favorite Greek dishes are offered, such as souvlakis or a steak and Greek
salad combination for around $10, and portions are generous. Start with freshly prepared
tzatziki ($4.50) and finish off with a delicious baklava, which costs just $4.
Hamburgers
At Bute Street, Hamburger Mary's (1202 Davie St., 604/687-1293, 7am-3am daily,
$8-11) is a classic 1950s-style diner (it actually opened in 1979), complete with chrome
chairs, mirrored walls, and an old jukebox. Delicious hamburgers attract the crowds to
Mary's; starting at $8, they aren't particularly cheap, but they come with fries, and extras
such as salad are just $2. Breakfast ($9 for eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast) begins

your meal with one of Mary's ever-popular milkshakes.

Kisha Poppo (1143 Davie St., 604/681-0488, 11am-midnight daily, $9.50-18) serves up
WesternizedJapanesefoodinasterilediner-styleatmosphere,butthepriceisright.Anall-
you-can-eat meal of soup, starters, sushi, hot mains such as teriyaki, and dessert is offered
for lunch ($12) and dinner ($21). The regular menu is also well priced with, for example,
a sushi/teriyaki combo dinner for $17.95.
