communication and acoustic localization of individuals at a long distance should
exist. Considering that a predator generally operates at a broader scale than its prey,
this scaled efficiency in acoustic communication could represent an advantage.
Amplitude fluctuation caused by atmospheric turbulence masks the amplitude
modulation of a signal, whereas reverberation caused by scattering from topogra-
phy and vegetation acts on frequency modulation.
Irregular amplitude fluctuation masks low frequencies of amplitude modulation
in signals. Reverberation is more sensitive to frequency range. It is less evident at
