2.5 Conclusion
The ability of additive manufacturing to build complex and customised parts
for biomedical applications compared to conventional manufacturing
methods and the unprecedented control of the surface chemistry rendered
by SAMs offers a new route for biomedical implant fabrication and func-
tionalisation. Surface modifying an additively manufactured part with de-
sired bioactive substances has the potential to optimise the implant-host
interface. Hence by optimising this biological interface, cell modulation can
be achieved.
