Some big box retailers are close to the falls. Canadian Tire (6840 McLeod Rd.,
905/358-0161, www.canadiantire.ca , 8am-9pm Mon.-Fri., 8am-6pm Sat., 8am-5pm Sun.)
is a discount retailer with an automotive shop, handy in the event of car trouble. Less
than a half-mile west on McLeod Road is Walmart (7481 Oakwood Dr., 905/371-3999,
www.walmart.ca , 7am-11pm daily), with groceries, clothing, and a pharmacy.
More than a dozen convenience stores and pharmacies are in Niagara Falls, many
of them clustered along the Lundy's Lane corridor. Nicholbys (5613 Victoria Ave., 905/
356-6103, www.nicholbys.com , 24 hours daily) is a clean, reasonably priced convenience
store in the heart of the Fallsview area.
Sports and Recreation
PARKS
There isnoshortage ofgreen spaces inNiagara Falls. The city maintains 96parks,many of
which are community parks with baseball diamonds, soccer fields, a shelter, benches, and
playgrounds.
There are two large parks not operated by the city. Niagara Parks Commission is re-
sponsiblefor Queen Victoria Park, thegreenspaceimmediatelyalongtherimofthegorge
from the brink of the falls to Clifton Hill, and Niagara Glen Park (3050 Niagara Pk-
wy., www.niagaraparks.com , dawn-dusk daily, free). Niagara Glen has ample free parking,
dozens of picnic tables and grills, as well as a large pavilion with additional tables. This
park is also home to the trailhead for the Niagara Glen hiking trails. At Glen Park, check
out the Niagara Glen Nature Centre (905/354-6678, www.niagaraparks.com , 10am-5pm
daily June-Aug., 10am-5pm Sat. Sept.-Oct., free), a treasure trove of information on the
parkssystem,hikingtrails,animals,andplantsfoundintheGlen.Parknaturalistscanguide

HIKING
The city has 20 walking/hiking trails ( www.niagarafalls.ca ) within its limits, most of which
are well under two miles and generally flat.
