In-Depth Information
on a fully guided, 45-minute tour that includes a 10-minute video, interactive displays, and
a look at the generator gallery.
This tour is heavy on information, but a bit light on visuals. Security precautions limit
visitor access, so tours tell rather than show the story of power generation. Still, for people
interested in science and engineering, this is an hour well spent. Visitors must leave bags
and backpacks in storage lockers (free) at the tour's start.
Limited parking is available at the plant. Overflow parking is at the Floral Clock, just
down the parkway. If you are traveling to the Beck Generating Station, take advantage of
the scenic viewing area on the parkway across from the station, with views of the Robert
Moses Power Project on the U.S. side of the river.
Floral Clock
Flower fans should find time to stop at the Floral Clock (14004 Niagara Pkwy.,
www.niagaraparks.com , dawn-dusk daily, free), a 40-foot-wide outdoor clock with a face
made of thousands of plants organized in a beautiful design. The design is changed twice
a year and typically uses more than 15,000 bedding plants. During daylight hours, you can
stroll behind the clock, where you'll find a door leading to a small room with images of all
the designs over the years. Those with green thumbs will want to take photos and explore a
bit more than most visitors, who will be satisfied with a five-minute stop here.

to families with kids. Clifton Hill is a spectacle in stark contrast to the natural beauty of
the falls, but there is some charm in the kitsch, the wax museums, haunted houses, funky
bowling alley, and food stands, all of which create an artificial glow, like a small slice of
Las Vegas.
