PARKWAY NORTH
WhenWinstonChurchillvisitedCanada,hecalledthestretchoftheNiagaraParkwayhead-
ing north from Niagara Falls “the prettiest Sunday afternoon drive in the world.” The six-
mile portion joining the falls to the Floral Clock runs along the edge of the gorge and re-
veals many natural wonders as you head toward Niagara-on-the-Lake.
MM White Water Walk
Following the Niagara Parkway north, you'll find the White Water Walk (4330 Niagara
Pkwy., 877/642-7275, www.niagaraparks.com , 10am-4:30pm daily Apr.-mid-June and
Sept.-mid-Oct., 9am-7:30pm mid-June-Aug., $11 adults, $7 children 6-12) about 1.5 miles
past the Rainbow Bridge. The White Water Walk gives you the opportunity to safely stroll
alongside the turbulent waters of the lower rapids without getting wet.
After descending more than 200 feet in an elevator, you'll walk along a quarter-mile
stretch of the Niagara River's edge, with some of the most awe-inspiring portions of the
lower rapids. In this narrow part of the gorge, water surges at 30 miles per hour, slamming
against giant rocks along the riverbed, creating constant waves ranging 9-15 feet high. This
raging white water is the backdrop for a scene in the film Superman II, in which Lois Lane
is saved by quick-thinking Clark Kent.
Stroll at your own pace on the White Water Walk, pausing to read the informative signs.
The walkway is raised, providing a safe, child-friendly, and dry way to see the rapids. The
boardwalk is wheelchair-accessible; however, two attached viewing platforms require the
use of stairs. Most visitors complete the walk in 30 minutes, but photographers and others
fascinated by the roar of white water could easily spend an hour here. This attraction is a
WEGO stop (green line, White Water), but also allows free curbside parking along Niagara
Parkway.
Ten Thousand Buddha Temple
Directly across from the White Water Walk is the Ten Thousand Buddha Temple (4303
River Rd., 905/371-2678, www.chamshantemple.org , 9am-5pm daily, free), also known as
the Cham San Monastery. Thisstunningpagodaandserenethree-acrecampusarehometo
