Lundy's Lane
Lundy's Lane is a major corridor that leads to the Fallsview area and is known for its nu-
merous hotels, restaurants, and shops. Once the site of the bloodiest battle in Canada's his-
tory, it now has a wonderful heritage museum.
The Niagara Falls History Museum (5810 Ferry St., 905/358-5082,
www.niagarafallsmuseums.ca , 10am-9pm Thurs., 10am-5pm Fri.-Wed., $5 adults, $3 chil-
dren 6-18) is small, but packed with interesting displays telling the story of the falls. Kids
can try on military uniforms, shoulder replica muskets, and lift cannon balls from the War
of 1812 era. There's also a “feet on” interactive exhibit that allows you to attempt to walk
a simulated high wire. The museum was renovated in 2012, just in time for the 200th an-
niversary of the war. Take 60-90 minutes to appreciate this wonderfully interactive history
museum.
Before you leave the museum, grab a free walking map of Drummond Hill Cemetery
and walk two blocks west to experience Lundy's Lane Battlefield (6110 Lundy's Lane,
905/358-5082, www.visit1812.com , dawn-dusk daily, free). On this spot during the War of
1812, 6,000 British and American soldiers clashed in fighting that lasted five hours. Casu-
alties were high, with each side recording about 800 dead, injured, or missing. The Battle
of Lundy's Lane is regarded as the bloodiest day of battle in that war, yet when the smoke
cleared, neither side could claim victory.
