In-Depth Information
The choreographed special effects simulate the cataclysmic forces that shaped the geology
of this region.
The entire experience is well under 30 minutes. If you'd prefer to stay dry during the
4-D rainfall simulation, stand close to the exits of the theater.
MM Hornblower Niagara Cruises
Niagara's newest attraction is also its most ambitious. Hornblower Niagara Cruises
(5920 Niagara Pkwy., 905/642-4272, www.niagaracruises.com ) provides boat tours to the
base of Horseshoe Falls from the Canadian side of the river. Hornblower will use new
700-passenger catamaran ships to ferry passengers to the base of Horseshoe Falls.
The ride to and from Horseshoe Falls is pleasant, providing a view of American and
Bridal Veil Falls as the boat passes about 500 yards from the U.S. shoreline. The calm
portion of the ride ends as the boat enters the choppy, roiling waters beneath Horseshoe
Falls. Water assaults you from all sides, as wind-whipped mist soaks everything in its path.
The ferocious torrent causes the water in the Lower Niagara River to resemble a boiling
cauldron with numerous white caps and eddies surging.
Those on the top deck of the boat receive the most amount of mist. People on the lower
deck receive some shelter from the wind-driven water, but everyone should plan on get-
ting wet. If you have a waterproof camera, you'll be able to capture images throughout the
journey. Others should stow their camera when the boat is directly under Horseshoe Falls
(tucking the camera under your poncho is usually sufficient protection).
