Driving south from St. Catharines to Port Colborne (22 miles) should take less than 30
minutes. The major roads are Routes 406 and 140. You'll pass through Thorold and Wel-
land on the way.
The QEW connects Fort Erie to St. Catharines. Route 406 joins the QEW in St. Cathar-
ines and then goes south, generally parallel to the QEW, and passes through Thorold, then
Welland, and terminates in Port Colborne. Highway 3 connects Port Colborne to Fort Erie.
Niagara Regional Transit ( www.niagararegion.ca ) connects St. Catharines, Welland,
Port Colborne, Thorold, Fort Erie, and Niagara Falls with buses that run Monday-Saturday.
One-way fares ($6) cover transfers to each town's municipal transit service.
For-profit bus operators offer fewer options— MegaBus ( www.ca.megabus.com )
provides daily motorcoach service between Fort Erie (Vince's Robo Mart, 21 Princess St.)
andSt.Catharines,attheSt.Catharinesbusterminal(70CarlisleSt.),buttherearenoother
stops in the region. The journey from Fort Erie to St. Catharines costs less than $10.
Railserviceisminimalinthisareaaswell;trainsstopatSt.Catharines(5GreatWestern
St.), but no other communities in the area. VIA Rail ( www.viarail.ca ) has daily service
between Niagara Falls, Ontario, and St. Catharines with a 21-minute trip ($23). GO Trans-
it ( www.gotransit.com ) offersserviceconnectingNiagaraFallsandSt.Catharines,butonly
on summer weekends.
