breakfast favorites.

For years, Americans have crossed over the Peace Bridge to dine at this wonderful restaur-
ant. Portions are large. The food is always made to order and fresh. Ask to be seated along
the rear of the restaurant to view the swift waters of the Niagara River on its 18-mile jour-
ney toward the falls.
The best Japanese restaurant in Fort Erie is Yukiguni 2 (660 Garrison Rd., Fort Erie,
905/994-8506, noon-9pm daily, $14). The exterior is a little drab, but the inside is warm
and inviting, and the staff is very personable. Consistently fresh seafood is the key to this
restaurant's success. The dinner menu is varied and the Yukiguni Box (separate portions of
chicken teriyaki, shrimp tempura, gyoza, and California rolls in a compartmentalized dish,
$16) is a local favorite. Try the two-appetizers-for-$10 deal; the portion sizes are enough to
qualify as an entrée at most sushi places.
Just down the shore from Fort Erie is Crystal Beach and cottage country, lovingly re-
ferred to by locals as Canada's South Coast. The South Coast Cookhouse (423 Derby
Rd., Crystal Beach, 905/894-7037, 11:30am-11pm Sun.-Thurs., 11:30am-midnight Fri.-
Sat., $16) is a casual, family-friendly restaurant close to the beach, with a kitchen open
longer than most other eateries in the area. The Cookhouse has a lot of typical pub fare,
but it's known for its large chicken wings. Unless you are a veteran wing consumer, stay
away from the suicide-style wings (very, very hot), and instead try the chipotle mango-
