Lake Ontario, with a splash pool, beach, playground, and picnic shelters.
Fishing
TheLowerNiagara RiverandLakeOntarioaffordnumerousopportunities forfishingfrom
shore or a chartered vessel. Careful stewardship of area waterways has allowed for sustain-
able populations of bass, trout, pike, catfish, sunfish, salmon, and many other freshwater
species. Adult anglers need to obtain a fishing license from the state ( www.dec.ny.gov ).
Wilson Tuscarora State Park (3371 Lake Rd., Wilson, 716/751-6361,
www.nysparks.com ) and Golden Hill State Park (9691 Lower Lake Rd., Barker, 716/
795-3885, www.nysparks.com ) provideboatlaunches($7)andgoodspotsforshorefishing.

fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. The rooms to the rear (farther from the road) are newer and
quieter.
FOOD
Lockport's Shamus Restaurant (98 West Ave., Lockport, 716/433-9809,
www.theshamus.com , 11am-9pm Mon.-Thurs., 11am-10pm Fri.-Sat., $12-34) is where the
localsenjoygoodfoodatreasonableprices.Afewstepsawayfromthecanallocks,Shamus
