If you don't own a boat, there are several ways to enjoy the water from Canalside.
Housed at the far end of the wharf is Buffalo Harbor Kayaks (1 Naval Park Cove, 716/
228-9153, www.blfoharborkayak.com , 9am-6pm daily). Stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and
kayak(singleortandem)rentalsstartat$15anhour,withhalf-daypackagesavailable.One-
hour SUP lessons are offered for $30 and there are river tours.
Canalside is the home port for the Queen City Ferry (Central Wharf, 716/796-4556,
www.queencityferry.com , noon-8pm daily mid-May-Sept., $8 adults, $6 children). The
ferry service connects the inner and outer harbors of Buffalo. This enjoyable, one-hour ride
departs from the Commercial Slip on the hour. Service is hop-on/hop-off, making the ferry
an excellent way to explore the waterfront at your own pace. The ferry is also the best
way to access concerts in the outer harbor area, where pre- and post-concert traffic can be
a headache. Queen City also offers daily historical tours (10:30am, $14 adults, $10 chil-
dren), with excellent, passionate narration. It's an educational and entertaining perspective
on the era when Buffalo was one of the world's busiest commercial ports. Locals and visit-
ors alike find this boat tour engaging.
