ELMWOOD VILLAGE
The emerging community known as Elmwood Village ( www.elmwoodvillage.org ) over-
laps with Allentown and provides visitors with cultural entertainment, shops, and relaxing
park spaces. The community is loosely defined as the area bordered by Richmond and
Delaware Avenues, North Street, and Delaware Park. Elmwood Village is more bustling
than Allentown, but still maintains a unique identity, blending museums, retail shops, parks
and a college campus. The village has been named “one of the 10 Great Neighborhoods in
America” by the American Planning Association.
The village also boasts green spaces designed by Frederick Olmsted. Olmsted and land-
scape designer Calvert Vaux designed Bidwell, Chapin, and Lincoln Parkways to connect
with Delaware Park.
