are close to the park, however, and can save you a few bucks.
BY BUS
Trailways ( www.trailwaysny.com ) and Greyhound ( www.greyhound.com ) bus lines pick
upanddropoffpassengers daily at the Quality Hotel & Suites (2401stSt.,716/282-1212,
www.qualityniagarafalls.com ) .
Niagara Frontier Transit Authority (716/855-7211, www.metro.nfta.com ) provides
local bus service. Routes 55 and 55T pick up passengers in the downtown area and serve
key areas of the city, such as the Pine Street business district. Fares are $2 each way for
both routes; the Trolley Route (55T) is free for guests staying at participating hotels (ask at
your hotel's front desk for a trolley pass).
BY TRAIN
Amtrak ( www.amtrak.com ) stops at the Niagara Falls train station (2701 Willard Ave.)
twice daily via the Empire route, and once daily via the Maple Leaf route. From Buffalo,
the train ride takes about an hour (on either route). Fares start at $13 each way. The Empire
route terminates at Niagara Falls, New York, while the Maple Leaf continues across the
border and stops at Niagara Falls, Ontario. You can take the train from the Canadian side to
visit Niagara Falls State Park, but be prepared to use a taxi to get from the train station to
the park, and vice versa.
From the train station, you'll need to take a taxi 2.5 miles ($8-10) to reach the park and
downtownarea.Taxiswaitatthetrainstationduringscheduledstoptimes,soyoushouldn't
have trouble getting a cab once you arrive.
North of the Falls
The Niagara region's beauty does not end at Niagara Falls, and neither should your travels.
Followingtherivernorth,you'llfindoutstandinghiking,history,andattractions. Alongthe
15 miles of the Lower Niagara River, you'll see a deadly whirlpool, an imposing power
plant, an outdoor arts campus, and a 300-year-old military fort.
Lewiston is a historic village with gorgeous hills, fertile plains, and a beautiful water-
front. In December 1813, the town was raided and destroyed by British soldiers and Native
