Leaving Skagway
Up at 4:45 am, we drive ½ block to the terminal for the 7 am ferry from Skagway to Haines.
I know, I know; way too early. But that is how they do it here. We HAD to be in line by
5 am. “Security” is the catchword. Line up, wait and wait and wait. Eventually a fellow in
reflector vest ambles by.
“Propane off?”
“Yep.”
That was it. That was “security.”
Expensive too. We paid $120 US for the 60 minute crossing from Skagway to Haines. Nice
ride though, cruising past a rugged, evergreen-cloaked coastline.
