In-Depth Information
There are seasonal staff selling stuff in those shops and there are bartenders and waiters in
the overpriced restaurants but that's about it. We arrived on July 4 th assuming there would
be some celebrations to enjoy. Turns out the cruise ship was here the day before so they
“adjusted” the celebratory calendar and had the fireworks on July 3 rd .
We are in the United States on July 4 th and the town is truly dead. Go figure. We have two
options. The one decent RV park is totally full. I don't see any actual people wandering
around but there is not a parking spot to be had. The trailer park on the outside edge of
town is scary. So we set up in an open field beside a bunch of old farts like us - but on
motorcycles with tents. We were to see a lot of those on this trip - oldies on bikes.
The field camping worked out really well - the price was right and no one tried to chase us
off. Tomorrow? We will be lining up for a stand-by spot on the ferry to Haines.
