Unlimited kilometres/miles or not?
Rates generally include X number of km/mi per day. Travel over and above that is charged
on a per km/mi basis. Pay attention here because distances in the north are vast and the km/
mi over and above your daily rate will rack up.
Consult a map and calculate the total distance of your route. Compare this to how many
km/mi are included with your daily rate. Most companies will offer you the opportunity to
buy extra km/mi at a reduced rate when you pay up front.
The other thing to be aware of is restrictions regarding gravel roads. If you are planning
to travel up the Dalton or Dempster Highways make sure your rental company will permit
this and/or whether there are additional charges / insurance issues.
Extra Days?
If your stay is flexible, find out what additional days will cost if you want to extend your
trip. One traveler negotiated a good rate for a ten-week trip then decided to add a few extra
days once underway. He discovered that the additional days would cost him top dollar, not
his negotiated rate.
What's included with a rental RV?
Rentals usually come equipped with basic bed linens, towels and cooking equipment. The
company's website will detail what is standard. You can then decide to bring extras, buy
