In-Depth Information
There are many spur roads, as they call them, that head out to active logging sites. As in-
structed, we stuck to the main roads and come to Camp Moresby. It's a waterfront camping
area with aboat launch onapretty bay.Anopen-sided structure hasbeen erected toprovide
cover during gatherings or even to camp under. We use it to pop open our chairs and enjoy
lunch, the rain falling gently around us. It is August, high season for tourism but we are the
only people.
Many of the boat tours take off from here. The open zodiacs with plastic bucket seats were
parked here, row on row. Bouncing over the waves in those would be miserable in this kind
of weather and frankly, “this kind of weather” is what prevails here. The one-day tour was
$176 each and included a trip around Louise Inlet with visits to a few old village sites if
time permitted.
By evening we were back to Charlotte City, choosing the Chinese food diner for our even-
ing meal. We figured it must be good because we noticed lots of locals were pulled up for
dinner. Seated behind us was an eccentric character, the proprietor of a local souvenir shop.
