In the meantime, a collection of males hovered nearby with the strongest fending off the
weaker. It was quite interesting to watch because I did not realize that even fish go through
this mating ritual where the males compete for the right to procreate.
Unfortunately, this year the fish are not returning in great numbers so the grizzlies are stay-
ing in the bush. One young bear, probably a teenager in grizzly years did show up to graze
on the grass bordering the creek. He was a beautiful fellow - sleek and healthy with well-
defined musculature.
