In-Depth Information
On another trip to Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories we got stuck with a bill of $93
for two orders of fish and chips, one cider and one coffee.
We had asked the waitress for a menu - she replied that “she” was the menu.
“We have three kinds of fish - Arctic char, halibut or grayling. And we have a buf-
falo steak.”
We did not think to ask how much. It was fish and chips on a wobbly wooden picnic table.
How much could that be?
By the time I discovered the answer was ”$93” for two orders of fish and chips, a coffee
and a cider, we'd already eaten the lot. That experience was at Bullock's Bistro in Yel-
lowknife. Consider yourself warned!
In Inuvik we headed back to the van where the price was right for our own cooking: a
grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. Great view too from our lounge chairs: the
Mackenzie River glistening in the midnight sun.
