Dawson to Atlin
Back to Dawson City, a dirt-street town trapped in the gold rush. A return to Whitehorse
with a dip down into Atlin, a tiny town with an astonishing arts community. Each summer
they host thousands for the Atlin Arts and Music Festival. Back to the Alaska Hwy where
we turned south at Jake's Corner and onto the Stewart Cassiar Hwy.
Prince Rupert to Telegraph Creek to Vancouver
Enroute toPrince Rupert wetookadetour tosee the Stikine Valley at Telegraph Creek. The
tourism literature calls this “Canada's Grand Canyon.” That is a stretch but it's still pretty
and the 113 km/ 70 mi each way was well worth it.
Another diversion took us to see the grizzly bears and glaciers at Stewart Hyder. Grizzlies
were in short supply but the glaciers were amazing. Arriving in Prince Rupert we took the
BC Ferry to the Queen Charlotte Islands for 5 days then returned home through Kitimat
and Terrace to Prince George and Vancouver.
