In-Depth Information
We make Inuvik in mid afternoon, settling into the Happy Valley Territorial Campground.
The site sits at the edge of town on a hill overlooking the Mackenzie Delta. There are full
hook-ups, a sani dump and showers, a laundry and kitchen shelter. Its proximity to town is
nice too so we can set up our camp then walk around town.
Inuvik is a purpose built community, conceived in 1953 as a government and commercial
center to service the northern people. It is Canada's most northerly community and with a
population of 3500, the largest town north of the Arctic Circle.
