The Tanana Valley where we are camped is also home to Creamer'sField Migratory Water-
fowl Refuge. This 1800 acre site is on the migratory path of some 200,000 birds who pass
through each fall: Canada geese, pintails, mallards, golden plovers and Sandhill cranes.
With an extensive trail system, the refuge is a great place to walk, never mind bird watch.
Come morning we're back on the Alaska Hwy again, heading south. But there are a few di-
versions before we actually head for home: the Top of the World Hwy between Tok, Alaska
andDawsonCity,YukonwithalunchstopinChicken; a1500km/900mireturntripupthe
Dempster Hwy to Inuvik, the farthest north you can drive in the Canadian summer. THEN
we'll head south for home.
