Anchorage
Just 19 km /12 mi from Anchorage we pulled over when we spotted two sizable moose in an
area called Potters Marsh. The marsh is part of the Potter Point State Game Refuge, a bird
viewing area. Some 130 species nest and rest here. Check out www.anchorage.net/birding
to learn more. A wooden boardwalk traverses the marsh. If you stay longer than 30 minutes
they want a $5 parking fee.
We found the same story at the Beluga and Bird Point viewpoint. Got out for a 29-minute
look and did not see any belugas so that was that. We did see quite a few Dall sheep on the
sides of mountains, albeit at a distance because they stick to the high alpine tundra. In fact,
they can be a bit of a trouble to spot - small moving dots of white on the sides of big moun-
tains.
Arrived in Anchorage at mid day. This time we took a spot at the Creekside Motel and RV
Park. It's just a gravel parking lot beside the highway but the location is good for seeing An-
chorage.
