In-Depth Information
We drove through Seward “new” town as we left. This is where the ferry slips have been
re-located and where the cruise ships unload. There are tons of chi-chi shops and restaur-
ants to serve this clientele.
From Seward or Homer you can catch ferries to the Kodiak Island Archipelago, a large
group of islands that basically continue the Kenai Mountain Range out into the ocean. Ko-
diak Island is the second largest island in the United States and was once the center of Rus-
sian culture in Alaska. Today Kodiak island services one of the most productive fishing
grounds in the world and is also the site of a very successful commercial satellite launch
complex. Someplace to check out on the next trip for sure.
