In 1984, Daniell and Rebeiz, demonstrated that direct esterification of endogenous
Chlide a with exogenous phytol in the presence of added ATP, and Mg was also
observed, in etiochloroplasts, which led to the proposal that depending on the stage
of plastid development, the conversion of Chlide a to Chl a may follow different
biosynthetic routes having different substrate and cofactor requirements (Daniell
and Rebeiz 1984 ).

In 1985, Wu and Rebeiz, ascertained the chemical structure of DV Chl b ,byNMR
spectroscopy.

plants (Carey and Rebeiz 1985 ).

In 1988, Wu and Rebeiz, ascertained the chemical structure of 10-OH-Chl a lactone
by NMR spectroscopy. This short wavelength Chl may play a role in PSII reaction
centers (Wu and Rebeiz 1988 ).
