In-Depth Information
The original
ARIES
algorithm was developed in the 1980s and publicly docu-
mented in a research report in 1989 [Mohan et al.
1992a
, Mohan,
1999
]. Later,
enhanced versions and extensions of the basic
ARIES
algorithm were developed;
these include
ARIES-RRH
(restricted repeating of history) [Mohan and Pirahesh,
1991
],
ARIES/NT
(nested transactions) [Rothermel and Mohan,
1989
],
ARIES/KVL
(key-value locking) [Mohan,
1990a
],
ARIES/IM
(index management) [Mohan and
Levine,
1992
],
ARIES/LHS
(linear hashing with separators) [Mohan,
1993a
], and
ARIES/CSA
(client-server architecture) [Mohan and Narang,
1994
]. The
ARIES
algorithm and most of the extensions have been implemented in several industrial-
strength database management systems, including
IBM DB2
[Mohan,
1999
].
