In-Depth Information
quarter mile, the steep trail recrosses the creek. Over the next 0.3 mile, you'll head
southwest into the lush canyon, crossing the creek seven more times.
Past the fifth crossing, you'll reach
Vicente Flat Camp
(2.2 miles, 1700'). The
first site is perched amid redwoods atop a flat creekside bench, with room for up to
three tents. The second, more spacious site sits along the north bank and includes a
table and fire ring. The third and fourth sites lie just downstream past old-growth red-
woods at the extreme southern limit of their range.
Onward, the trail leads to
Vicente Flat
itself, a small meadow that hosts
two
small sites
(2.4 miles, 1650'). Along the edge of the flat, two parallel paths skirt west.
The upper trail, the main Vicente Flat Trail, climbs 0.1 mile through poison oak thick-
ets to the
Stone Ridge Trail.
Avoid the poison oak in favor of the lower spur, which
detours 70 feet to two creekside sites and rejoins the main trail only yards from the
Stone Ridge Trail junction
(2.5 miles, 1620').
If you're continuing on the scenic westbound Stone Ridge Trail, refer to
TRIP 65
Cone Peak Loop
. If you're bound for the coast, refer to
TRIP 66 Highway 1 to Vi-
cente Flat
and follow that trail description in reverse.
