Towering ponderosa pines in the open meadow of Pine Valley.
VISITOR CENTER: Big Sur Station: (831) 667-2315. The station is on Highway
1, 4.2 miles south of Andrew Molera State Park and just south of Pfeiffer Big Sur
State Park. Open daily 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day, 8 a.m.-4:30

NEAREST CAMPGROUNDS: Two small USFS campgrounds, White Oaks
Campground (7.9 miles along Tassajara Road) and China Camp (10.7 miles along
Tassajara Road), are open year-round on a first-come, first-serve basis (6 sites; free).
Facilities include vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. There is no water avail-
able at the campgrounds.
INFORMATION: There's no fee if you park at the turnout on Tassajara Road dir-
ectly across from the China Camp entrance. Fire permits are required for all stoves.
Dogs are permitted and allowed off leash, except in designated campgrounds, where
a 6-foot or shorter leash is required.
