Although Ventana Wilderness offers hundreds of dog-friendly hiking trails, be aware that
poison oak can also be carried on animals' fur.
As at most peaks along this dramatic coast, the best times to hike are between
mid-November and April, taking advantage of cooler temperatures, fogless days, and
fewer pesky mosquitoes and flies. Be prepared for rain and snow if you hike in winter,
when snow levels can drop to 2000 feet and the river may be impassable.
During the driest months (August through November), you may not find water
until Big Pines Camp (upper Danish Creek) or Pat Spring. In drought years there's
even a chance these two water sources could run dry. In such conditions, consider one
of the alternative routes.

ish Creek Trail junction (2050').
From this junction, the Danish Creek Trail branches left and descends to Dan-
ish Creek Camp (3.8 miles, 1430'), set in a broad meadow beside year-round Danish
