SAN SIMEON STATE BEACH

TRAIL CONDITION: Well maintained, poison oak, good for kids
HIGHLIGHTS: Follow San Simeon Creek through seasonal wetlands to the beach and watch for elephant
seals, sea otters, and gray whales.
TO REACH THE TRAILHEAD: The trailhead is adjacent to the Washburn Day-Use Area
off Highway 1, immediately past the small bridge over San Simeon Creek. Head east
on San Simeon Creek Road, drive a quarter mile, then turn right into the park. Water
and restrooms are available.
TRIP SUMMARY: This easy hike begins on an elevated boardwalk through San Simeon
Creek's unique seasonal wetland and riparian habitat. From the end of the boardwalk,
stroll the beach barefoot in either direction. Bring binoculars for a chance at spotting
migrating gray whales.
