In-Depth Information
Limekiln Falls plunges 100 feet past limestone cliffs as it descends the steepest coastal
canyon in the continental US.
Trip Description
From the trailhead (70'), cross the large wooden footbridge over Hare Creek. Bear
left past the Hare Creek Trail junction and climb past the remains of an old-growth
forest. You'll soon reach the Limekiln Falls Trail junction (0.25 mile, 110'), 150
feet past the confluence of the West Fork and Limekiln Creek. Bear right and head
northeast.
The trail descends a few steps, then crosses the creek on a narrow wooden foot-
bridge. Follow the east bank, then turn northwest across another small footbridge (0.3
mile, 140'). The trail crosses the creek once more and climbs a small set of stairs past
a wooden retaining wall (0.4 mile, 170'). Follow the sound of falling water 0.1 mile
uphill to the base of these spectacular 100-foot falls. Visitors gaze in silence as water
cascades down the moss- and fern-covered limestone cliffs. Rest and feel the mist on
your face before heading back.
