In-Depth Information
Looking at the compositing tree from Figure 15.27 again, you can see that there is a RenderLayer input node
called
set
. Figure 15.30 shows the Render Layer panel for this node. Notice the lamp override in the
Light
fi eld. It says
keylamps
. In the scene, the spot lamps that have been created for direct illumination of the
Beast and the mother, as well as two hemi lamps for some ambient light, have been added to a Group that has
been named
keylamps
(the name doesn't matter as long as it is descriptive enough for you to remember its
function). When the
set
Render Layer is used in the compositor, the large number of shadowbuffered spot
lamps are ignored, and only the
keylamps
are used. The raw render output from this procedure is seen in
Figure 15.31. Going back to the node tree once more, this direct lighting pass of the set is combined with
the “ambiance” background that was rendered earlier and brought in through an
Image Input node

node, shown in Figure 15.32. Figure 15.33 shows the fi nal result. This makes it
fairly simple and quick to control the intensity of the direct lighting and shadows on the set by adjusting the
mix value of the
Add
node.
