there are some elements and objects that
appear on more than one of the layers,
major geometry is arranged so that when
it does not appear in a shot, it can eas-
ily be disabled on the layer buttons. In
Figure 13.25, you can see one of the cam-
era views of a shot from later in the proj-
ect. Notice how only one set layer out of
three is enabled because the others were
not needed for this view.
If you are going to use this method, you
will also want to put the lamps that illu-
minate each specifi c portion of the set on

the same layer as the objects. In fact, it can be useful to also change those
lamps to only affect objects on their own layer by using the Layer set-
ting in the Lamp buttons , shown in Figure 13.26. This means that the
lamps will not affect your characters, but it is usually best to light them
independently anyway. Also, if your characters will have hair or fur using
Blender's strand particles, the calculation times for shadowbuffers on a
very high number of interior lamps can be quite large.
