This establishes the most basic functionality of the sys-
tem. Figure 10.33 shows the Beast at 0%, 50%, and 100%
of an overall surprise/burp face shape, controlled by a
vertical motion of the indicated bone. In Figure 10.34,
each of the face controls is labeled to show what kind of
motions control which shapes.
To make things more complicated from a setup stand-
point but much more intuitive from the animator's point
of view, you can and should attach different shapes to
the same controller. For example, you will almost cer-
tainly have “eyebrow up” and “eyebrow down” shapes of
some kind. It would be useful to attach both of them to

the same controller so that moving it up and down
would produce the entire range of shapes. Figure
10.35 shows how this would work.
