Creating Rough Sets
At this point, you have character models, a story reel, and not much else. It is time to start bringing the pieces
together. Your characters need a meeting place, and that place is going to be a rough set. If your fi nal set will be
very simple, there is no need to create a rough version at this early stage. Just build your fi nal set and skip this
section. If you're wondering why you would want to create a rough set, well, it comes back to time. Sets, like
any other aspect of an animation project, could occupy an infi nite amount of your time. If it came to choosing
between having a crummy, half-baked animation appearing on a beautiful detailed set, or a wonderfully
crafted animation taking place on a minimalist set, which would it be?
