Defeating the Ender Dragon
The End region generates as a fairly small island floating in an endless void, dotted with
obsidian towers and numerous Endermen. Your actual spawn point is probably located on
this island, but it can also be underground (in which case you can use your pickaxe to dig
outastaircasetothesurface)oronanevensmallerplatformfloatingasmalldistanceaway
from the mainland. If that's the case, you'll need to build a platform across using your dirt
blocks or obsidian and keep your bow handy so you can shoot the Ender Dragon if it at-
tacks so it doesn't push you into the void.
The Ender Dragon is no quick kill. With 200 hit points and the ability to knock out up to
half your health in a single blow, its wings are not easily clipped, but it's also no Smaug.
Defeat the dragon following these steps. It's actually not difficult but can take a few at-
tempts. Always keep your hunger bar topped up so your health can continually regenerate:

The dragon draws healing power from the ender crystals located atop the obsidian
towers (see
Figure 12.10
). You won't defeat it without knocking out every one of
them.

You'll probably first spot the Ender Dragon in the distance. Look for the
line of shimmering power as it passes by an ender crystal.

Put the pumpkin on your head so you don't annoy any Endermen. They'll need-
lessly sap your health, so it's worth having a reduced field of view, shown in
